"The Foster Boy" is the story of the orphan Max (Max Hubacher). His biggest dream is to be part of a "real family" - and in fact it seems to be coming true: Max is hired out to the Bösiger family on the Dunkelmatte. Instead of getting love and recognition, he is treated like a workhorse by his foster parents and humiliated by their son Jakob (Max Simonischek) out of jealousy. Playing the accordion is the only thing that nobody can take from him. Here he draws courage and the little bit of self-respect necessary to survive.
Happiness is short-lived, however.
