Eleven-year-old refugee Neda (Miriam Stein) is admitted to the hospital. The desperate eyes of the mute girl speak of terrible experiences. Robert (Christian Kohlund), head physician of the clinic, spontaneously decides to take the child home, thereby snubbing not only official authorities and the hospital management, but also his wife Luisa (Mareike Carrière), who has suffered from her childlessness for years. The presence of the girl tears the old wound open again. However, restoring this child's confidence in the world puts this pain to rest, and soon the three of them develop into a small family.
